AUSTRALIA Regional Skilled Migration Visa Scheme Subclass 187

Regional Skilled Migration Scheme Visa is for employers located in remote low-growth areas of Australia who desire to recruit highly skilled employees from overseas or temporary workers within Australia to fill in vacant positions in their employment on permanent basis.

Application Process:

Step 1: The employer indicates the vacant position and applies to the Regional Certifying Body (RCB).

Step 2: The RCB assesses the application lodged against specific criteria, which includes the genuineness of the need to employee from overseas or to hire temporary workers within Australia.

Step 3: The RCB, if convinced, certifies the application and issues a certificate to this effect.

Step 4: Employee accepts the offer and applies for a visa.

Employer’s requirements:

  1. Must be lawfully and actively operational in Australia.
  2. Should provide details of the offer of the full time/permanent employment and demonstrate the genuineness of the need of the employee possessing specific skills from overseas into labour market.
  3. Should abide by the local and international laws.
  4. The employer’s business must be established and actively engaged in the activity for which it is registered in the region (all areas of Australia except for Brisbane, Gold coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne).


Position Requirement:

  1. Position should be full time and ongoing for atleast 2 years from the employment date.
  2. Provide working conditions that are favourable in line with Australian legislations/laws.
  3. Position or occupation offered should fall within the scope of the Scheme Occupational List (SOL).
  4. The position requires a person with at least an Australian equivalent trade, diploma or a higher qualification.



  1. Should be nominated for a position that falls within the scope of the SOL.
  2. Should have positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authorities for the nominated occupation.
  3. Should have at least 3-year work-experience in the nominated occupation.
  4. Where the nomination is for a highly paid senior executive position, the salary should not be less than $250,000.00 per annum.
  5. Should have an employer willing to sponsor you, the employee, on a permanent basis.
  6. Demonstrate that you possess the necessary skills required for that occupation and the relevant licensing/registration if the occupation demands.
  7. Should be under 45 years of age.
  8. Should have at least a functional English-language ability.
  9. Have worked in Australia in at least the last 2-years on an eligible temporary visa in the occupation for which you have been nominated, including the last year for the nominating employer. Those just graduated and entering the workforce will need to apply for a graduate visa to Australia.
  10. Should undergo health and character examination before applying for the visa.
